Age Pension Eligibility Estimator

Estimate your fortnightly Age Pension entitlement based on the assets test and income test. Rates from 20 March 2026; thresholds from 1 July 2026.

Disclaimer: This calculator provides estimates only and should not be considered financial or social security advice. Age Pension rates, thresholds and eligibility rules are set by Services Australia and indexed twice yearly. Deeming rules, exempt asset rules and the income test are complex. Always contact Services Australia or a licensed financial adviser to confirm your entitlement. Evercend Pty Limited does not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence.

Estimating your Age Pension entitlement

The Age Pension calculator estimates your fortnightly Age Pension using the two means tests that Services Australia applies, the income test and the assets test. It pays whichever test produces the lower amount.

How to use this calculator

1

Enter your details

Enter your relationship status, whether you own your home, your assessable assets and income, and your financial assets for deeming.

2

Read the result

The calculator applies both tests and shows the estimated fortnightly payment.

How this calculator works

Services Australia runs an income test and an assets test and pays the lower of the two results, starting from the maximum rate. The income test counts assessable income, including income deemed from financial assets, and reduces the maximum rate once income passes a free area. The assets test counts assessable assets, with your principal home generally excluded, and reduces the maximum rate once assets pass a threshold that depends on homeownership and relationship status. Deeming treats your financial assets as earning a set rate rather than their actual return.

Assumptions used

The figures shown are the current Services Australia rates, which are indexed on 20 March and 20 September for payment rates and on 1 July for the test thresholds and deeming, so they change during the year. The calculator uses the standard rates and does not model every case, such as transitional-rate pensioners, rent assistance, illness separation or overseas rates. Confirm your own figures with Services Australia.

Worked example

Example only

A single homeowner with $400,000 in assessable assets is $67,000 above the full-pension assets threshold of $333,000.

The assets test reduces the maximum rate by $3 per $1,000 over the threshold each fortnight, which is 67 times $3, or $201 a fortnight. Their income test result is worked out separately, and Services Australia pays whichever test gives the lower amount.

The calculator produces the figures for the details entered.

What changes your Age Pension entitlement

Several things change your Age Pension rate and whether you qualify. The main ones are:

Relationship status and homeownership

These set the thresholds for both tests.

Assessable assets

Amounts over the threshold cut the pension by $3 per $1,000 a fortnight.

Assessable income

Including deemed income, which cuts the pension by 50c per $1 over the free area.

Deeming rates

These set the income counted on financial assets regardless of actual returns.

Work Bonus

The first $300 a fortnight of employment income is set aside before the income test applies.

Indexation timing

Rates change on 20 March, 20 September and 1 July.

Qualifying age and residence

A person must be 67 and meet residence rules.
